Author Coaches, Editors, & PR Help: Recommendations for Authors

Maybe you’re an aspiring author and you want to hire an author coach or an editor to help get you on your way. Or maybe you already have your book, and you’re looking for some help with your website or PR. Then, this is the list for you. Here are my “best of the best” recommendations in each category.

Author Coaches

Nicole Meier

Nicole is not only a bestselling novelist in her own right, but she’s also one of the most supportive people I know. And now, she’s putting all of her optimism and experience into helping other authors achieve their dreams.

She coaches fiction writers on everything from concept to developmental editing to getting ready to pitch to agents/publishers.

For more information or to contact her, go to her website HERE. You can also watch my conversation with Nicole on my YouTube Channel here.

Katrin Schumann

Smart, driven, brilliant author of smash hits including The Forgotten Hours, Katrin is also a fantastic author coach who especially provides invaluable insight into the publishing industry (and sometimes, though rarely these days, she’s an editor, too). She particularly has great material on figuring out how to find an agent.

Katie Kozlowski

If you’re having more of a creative or spiritual block with your work, I can’t recommend Katie’s sessions enough. I worked with her over a creative block and not only found the session itself to be very helpful, but the breakthroughs continued to unfold long after our Zoom call ended. Katie is an energy & spiritual healer, but she works with a lot of creative people. She helps artists “Create more freedom and break the cycle of struggle you're stuck in today.”

Heather Webb is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of beloved historical novels and all-around personable person. She edits fiction of all genres with the exception of horror, picture books, or epic fantasy. She also edits query letters and synopses. She also offers a consultation service for writers in need of publishing advice or other industry-related guidance.

She’s often booked way in advance. To learn more, visit her website HERE. You can also watch my conversation with Heather on my YouTube Channel here.

Henriette Lazaridis

Henriette is a brilliant novelist who was a Rhodes Scholar at Middlebury College, Oxford University. She also taught English literature at Harvard for ten years. She now teaches all levels of writers at the famed Grub Street in Boston.

Her consultations, for any level of writer, can include line editing, plot brainstorming, general critique, outlining, and artist coaching.

Learn more about her editing and teaching at her website HERE.

Caitlin Alexander

Caitlin was the editor I used for Oil and Marble before sending it out to publishers. She is brilliant and changed my writing forever — for the better. I STILL keep a list of “Caitlin Notes” with me to guide me on revisions today. If you can get in, get her!

Go to her website, EditedByCaitlin, for more info.

Website

Chrysse Haynes

Chrysse is a brilliant artist in her own right who brings her fine arts eye to every one of her designs — oh and she designed THIS very website. She’s one of the most passionate people I know, so if you want someone who will dive whole-heartedly into your project and deliver a gorgeous, easy to navigate product you can’t beat Chrysse.

Visit her website HERE to check out her work.

Andrea Levin

Andrea is an Emmy-winning Hollywood writer and producer, who also runs her own creative services agency, “Making Shit Up.” She not only designs websites, but she can crack your banner/logo design or Look Books and provide general moral support. She’s smart and funny and entertainment-industry savvy.

Check out her and her work, HERE on her website.

Publicity

Megan Beatie

Megan is a fantastic publicist who works on a variety of literary and commercial fiction, narrative and prescriptive nonfiction, as well as middle grade and YA books. I’ve tangentially worked with her on a couple of projects, and she’s passionate, knowledgeable, and a real gift to authors. Also, in a rare point for a publicist, she’s upfront when she doesn’t think she’s the right person to help your project!
